Australia will lose more than US on anti-China science policy

The National Science Foundation of America published a “Dear Colleague” letter Earlier this month, NSF funds were banned from being used to collaborate with organizations on the U.S. government’s list of prohibited parties. In plain English, this means that the US government decided “Ban collaborations between every U.S. scientist it funds and nearly all Chinese research institutions and their employees.”

So far, NSF has tried to balance the potential risks and benefits of U.S.-China collaborations.

The question on the minds of many Australian university administrators and scientists is how the Australian government, and particularly security agencies such as ASIO, will respond to this latest development.
