Big AI blunder? Cops cuff teen in Baltimore after AI security system detects gun in his bag; here’s what happened next

According to TMZ, the incident was captured on body camera footage from Kenwood High School in Baltimore County; here, Allen is seen being beaten to the ground while handcuffed after the AI-powered gun detection system flagged Allen as believing he was carrying. Searched, found nothing.
The police officer explained the incident
An officer on body camera tried to explain the entire incident in detail, saying the AI system “triggered the alarm because of the way you were eating chips, Doritos, or something else; it detected that as a weapon.”
A spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police Department told TMZ: “Officers responded appropriately and proportionately based on information provided at the time. The incident was resolved safely after it was determined there was no threat.”
The school uses Omnilert. According to TMZ, this is a program that uses existing school camera feeds to detect objects that resemble weapons and then sends alerts to school security guards and law enforcement.
Allen told the incident
Speaking to local news station WBAL-TV 11 News, Allen said he had both hands over the chip bag and one finger out when the system flagged him. It was unclear whether Omnialert thought the finger was a weapon.
