Awareness programme on sustainable agriculture held in Udhagamandalam

ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC) Research Center at Udhagamandalam organized an awareness campaign on PM-.Dhan Dhaanya Krishi YojanaNatural Farming Mission and Pulses Mission in Periyar Nagar village on Saturday.

“The event was held as part of the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) outreach programme, which reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable agricultural development in the mountainous regions. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation of 40 farmers, including 25 women, representing the villages of Periyar Nagar, Muthuswamy Nagar and Jeeva Nagar,” a press release said.

Somasundaram Jayaraman, head of the research center at Udhagamandalam, highlighted the benefits of the pioneering initiatives and highlighted how they aim to empower farmers, improve soil health and promote climate-resilient, sustainable agriculture in mountainous ecosystems. The statement also underlined the importance of adopting natural farming practices to increase soil fertility and long-term productivity.
