Bandi Sanjay Backs New VB-G Ram Ji Employment Scheme

Karimnagar: Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday lauded the Centre’s new VB-G Ram Ji employment guarantee scheme, terming it as an important step to create resilient village assets and support farmers.

Addressing the media at a press conference here, he said the scheme guarantees 125 days of work per person each year and provides for payment of unemployment allowance with interest if work is not provided on time. Unlike previous programs that focused mainly on manual labour, the new program will prioritize building long-term village infrastructure, he said.

Bandi Sanjay said states will be allowed to suspend the program for up to 60 days during peak farming seasons to avoid labor shortage for farmers. He said workers can complete 125 days under the program and earn an additional 60 to 80 days from agricultural work, which could provide up to 200 days of employment per year. He added that Telangana will get ₹340 crore more under the scheme this year compared to last year.

Responding to criticism over the renaming of the employment programme, the Minister cited past changes in scheme names by previous governments and accused the Congress of politicizing Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy.

The union minister of state also announced that $50 billion has been sanctioned for Karimnagar Municipal Corporation under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF), of which 40 billion will be provided by the Centre. He said that the city has benefited from Central schemes like Smart City, Swachh Bharat and AMRUT.

He expressed confidence that the BJP will win the upcoming municipal elections and said that although leaders of various parties are ready to join the BJP, priority in tickets will be given to party workers with clean records for a long time.
