CUET-UG 2026 exam, rescheduled over Id, conducted smoothly across centres

An NTA source said the rescheduled CUET-UG 2026 was conducted smoothly at hundreds of examination centers on Sunday, May 31, 2026, after some tests scheduled for May 28 were postponed due to identity reasons.

“The exam was conducted smoothly,” the source said. PTI.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the rescheduled Common University Entrance Examination-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2026 exam in two shifts at centers across the country and abroad.

In Shift-I, the examination was conducted at 334 centers for 70,266 candidates. A foreign center became operational and two candidates from abroad took the exam. NTA source said no Person with Disability (PwD) candidates were registered in this shift.

In Shift-II, the exam was conducted at 358 centers for 80,872 candidates. The source added that the shift included three disabled candidates, while two foreign centers served 30 overseas candidates.

According to the source, a total of 54,882 candidates appeared for the Shift-II exam and the participation rate was 67.9%.

Earlier, NTA had revised the Common University Entrance Examination-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2026 exam schedule after postponing some exams scheduled to be held on May 28 due to identity reasons.

The institution later announced that the affected exams would be held on May 31, June 6 and June 7. Entry cards for the May 31 exam have been announced, and entry cards for the remaining dates will be issued separately.

The smooth conduct of the exam comes a day after a technical glitch at some centers delayed the start of Shift-I of CUET-UG 2026. NTA later announced re-examination for 3,765 affected candidates.

“We understand that 3,765 candidates who are current and have completed their biometric registration have chosen to withdraw before the examination resumes. NTA will hold a rescheduled examination for these candidates as a one-time measure,” NTA said. he said.

“The new date and details will be announced separately,” he added.

CUET-UG was introduced in 2022 to standardize undergraduate admissions in the Centre, State and select private universities in the country.

Replacing multiple entry tests, CUET-UG aims to provide a uniform assessment platform to assess candidates on language skills, domain-specific subjects and general aptitude in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to promote inclusivity and equality of opportunity.
