Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton’s win ‘beyond wildest dreams’

Hamilton’s victory and Antonelli’s retirement meant that the Italian pilot’s lead in the drivers’ standings decreased to 41 points.

Both Russell and world champion Norris paid tribute to Hamilton.

Norris said: “It’s quite nice. It’s quite special. It’s nice. And again, it’s even nicer to see the partnership with Ferrari happening and kind of paying dividends.”

“You could see how much that meant to him. At the same time, obviously a lot of people were talking badly about him, and there’s a lot of crap coming from a lot of people on the internet, so it’s nice that he could give them all the middle finger.”

Russell, who spent three seasons as Hamilton’s teammate at Mercedes before moving to Ferrari in 2025, said: “We both grew up a bit like Lewis fans and, you know, spending three years together at Mercedes is a huge respect for me.

“Joining Ferrari was a big and brave move and seeing it pay off for him is very special given the magnitude of the decision.

“It’s a very special feeling to see three Englishmen standing here for the first time in 60 years.”
