Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: Giants deliver Champions League classic

It was always going to be difficult for the second period to keep up with the high-octane pace of the first, with decisive moments both wild and spectacular crammed into the final few minutes.
As extra time approached, substitute Camavinga was sent off 24 minutes after entering the game for two yellow cards. The first was the foul on Jamal Musiala in the 78th minute, and the second was when he took the ball after the foul on Kane and delayed Bayern’s free kick.
The red card cost him dearly and the home team made the most of their advantage.
Luis Diaz made it 5-4 for Bayern Munich in the 89th minute, while Michael Olise put the icing on the cake in stoppage time.
After Güler was sent off, Real coach Alvaro Arbeloa admitted: “With the red card, everything was over.
“It’s incredible to send off a player for this action. It’s not possible with a player like this, in a match like this. We think it’s all a bit unfair.”
Bayern will be followed by a semi-final against Paris St-Germain, with boss Kompany saying: “The boys have been strong mentally to bounce back from setbacks.
“The fans helped us too. We stayed calm and always felt our moment would come. The boys deserved this win.
“We showed absolute belief and will to get back into the game.”
Gerrard, who won the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool, described it as “an incredible game of football, end-to-end, fascinating tactical approaches”.
“Extra time looked likely but a moment of madness, indiscipline and stupidity cost Real their chance of qualifying for the last four,” he added.
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told Match of the Day: “Both teams were excellent going forward but both were poor defensively.
“Can you play like this if you want to win the Champions League? It will be fascinating to see how it plays out when Bayern face Paris St-Germain.”
