Plea as snorkeller still missing off Ledge Point
The family of a man missing since Thursday after failing to return from a snorkelling session off the coast of Western Australia have called for the search to continue for the 32-year-old.
Wen Ren “Walter” Gu was snorkeling with friends at Ledge Point Beach, about 100 kilometers north of Perth, on Thursday when they noticed he did not return with the group at 3 p.m.
WA Police launched a significant sea and air search, but the scope of that search was reduced on Friday evening.
On Saturday, a friend of Gu’s posted to the Ledge Point community group that they did not want to give away and hoped to continue searching.
“If you or someone you know was at Ledge Point Beach that day, saw someone rescue or pick up an Asian male, have any photos, video, dashcam footage, or relevant information, please direct message me,” the message read.
“Any little piece of information can be very important.”
It could not be confirmed whether Gu returned to shore on his own or was rescued by nearby residents, the post said.
“Australian police conducted search and rescue operations around the clock and have since been stopped,” the statement said.
“But we don’t want to give up and hope to continue the search with everyone’s support.”
Located about an hour north of Perth, Ledge Point is a popular holiday resort with a small permanent population of approximately 230 people.
Anyone with information on the man’s whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online: www.crimestopperswa.com.au or by calling 1800 333 000.
