Benjamin Netanyahu signals move away from Trump as tensions explode | US | News

The Israeli Prime Minister claimed that Tel Aviv and Washington were moving away from the USA and forming a new alliance with India, at a time when they were clashing over the US military action in Lebanon.

The striking revelations come as the apparent rift between the United States and Israel deepens during the four-month-long conflict with Iran. Speaking to Sharon Gal, one of Israel’s leading right-wing journalists, Netanyahu said, “You need to form new alliances and develop new relationships. This is what I am doing with India now.”

Last month, Israeli officials condemned the fragile peace deal brokered between the United States and Iran; this seemed to bother Vice President J.D. Vance; Vance told them not to criticize “the only powerful ally” the Jewish state “has left” “anywhere in the world.”

“We have other friends, like a little country called India. It has 1.4 billion people and we have tremendous support there.”

Tensions between the US-Israel and Iran appeared to have reached a breaking point in late June when Iran attacked three merchant ships that did not follow the designated route while crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington retaliated by launching airstrikes on several sites where Iranian ammunition was located, hitting 170 military targets across the region, according to U.S. Central Command.

This week marked the signing of the current peace agreement, according to the President Donald TrumpLess than a month has passed since it was signed.

Israel, which continued attacks against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon despite Tehran’s clear warnings to withdraw, was deemed partially responsible.

Netanyahu’s refusal to halt military operations in the region, which the Lebanese government claims have cost more than 4,000 civilian lives since the start of the Iran war, has undermined many peace efforts and strained relations between Washington and Tel Aviv.

President Trump reportedly resorted to swear words during his phone call with the Israeli leader due to the fragility of a possible peace agreement with Iran.

This shift was revealed in the book Regime Change by journalists Maggie Haberman and Johnathan Swan, in which it was revealed that Trump told the Israeli leader that he was “sick” with him.

“I did everything to protect you. You better keep at it. This has been going on for too long. Everyone’s tired of you, Bibi,” he had said.
