It is thought that at least 20 people were injured in the horror tram incident that occurred on June 2. A tram derailed on Wartenberger Straße, according to the Berlin Fire Brigade.
The fire brigade told Berliner Morgenpost that the accident occurred at 9:29 a.m. on the bend just before the Arnimstraße stop. For an unknown reason, the tram hit the overhead line pole and tore one side of the vehicle. Berlin police reported in a tweet on X that the M5 tram crashed into two poles. According to police, rescue and repair efforts may take several days.
BVG CEO Henrik Falk of Berlin Transport arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after 11am to see the damage for himself. “We are deeply saddened by the images we saw here. Our thoughts are with the injured and our passengers.
“The cause of the accident still needs to be clarified. We cannot say at this time whether the accident was triggered by a technical error, a human error, or a medical emergency.”
The spokesman reported that a total of 20 people were injured in the accident, 17 were slightly injured and 3 were seriously injured.
