Bill O’Reilly Says Christiane Amanpour Only Apologized for Israel-Hamas Comments Because She ‘Wants a Paycheck’
Bill O’Reilly thinks Christiane Amanpour apologized for her Israel-Hamas comments because she just “wanted a paycheck.”
On Friday’s episode of “No Spin News,” the host suggested that the only reason CNN’s international news anchor apologized for his comments Monday that Israeli hostages were being treated better than many Gazans after their release as part of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas was to cash his paycheck.
“Amanpour, without mentioning Trump, solved this problem by, as you said, trying to draw an equivalence between how Gaza civilians were treated by the heavy hand of Israel and how kidnapped hostages were treated,” O’Reilly said. “But he apologized, and that’s because he wanted a paycheck.”
On Monday, CNN’s international news anchor walked back comments he made about Hamas releasing all 20 living hostages. Earlier in the day, he had stated that the job of Israeli hostages might be easier than ordinary citizens in Gaza.
“I’ve talked before on live television about what a happy day this is for Israeli families whose loved ones have finally returned from two years of horrific Hamas captivity, and for civilians in Gaza who have finally escaped two years of brutal, deadly war,” Amanpour wrote in her apology. he said. “I noted that it would take a long time for the hostages who finally returned home to recover mentally and physically, but I also regret that they may have been treated better than many Gazans because Hamas used these hostages as pawns and bargaining chips.”
He continued: “But it was insensitive and wrong. Like everyone else, when I spoke to many former hostages and their families, I was appalled at what Hamas subjected them to over the course of two years. As you just heard, they told me stories of being in tunnels where they could barely breathe, where they weren’t allowed to cry, where they were starved and made to dig their own graves. And of course, today, some of the hostages are coming back in body bags.”
