The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said Congress leader KC Venugopal’s allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) are “baseless and politically motivated”.
The response came after Congress general secretary Mr Venugopal said in a post on
“In reality, the Modi government is determined to use the FCRA to harass vocal non-governmental organizations and minority-run institutions and seize their properties,” he alleged.

On Friday, July 10, 2026, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) urged Mr. Shah to withdraw the FCRA Bill, 2026 and the recently notified Rules, demanding that both be redesigned after wider consultation with stakeholders.
Responding to the Congress leader’s post, BJP MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra said in his post on
He said: “The confusion spread by the Opposition and some vested interests regarding the amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) is completely unfounded and politically motivated.”
“Venugopal ji, all the allegations made by you are not only baseless and far-fetched but also ridiculous. In any case, this bill will be presented in Parliament. It will definitely be discussed there. The truth will come out and the facts will come out,” Mr. Patra said.
He said the Modi government was operating on the principles of “high accountability” and “nation first” and not on the “low trust” policy of the Congress-led UPA government.
