BJP State general secretary says the Congress’ failure to choose a CM candidate even nine days after the United Democratic Front emerged victorious in the Assembly elections is an insult to all Malayalis

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State general secretary S. Suresh said Kerala is worried that the Congress will give in to the demands of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Mr. Suresh said that the Jamaat’s approval is required to elect the Prime Minister, be it VD Satheesan, KC Venugopal or Ramesh Chennithala. It has been nine days since the United Democratic Front (UDF) emerged victorious in the Assembly elections in the state. However, the Congress could not elect its Prime Minister candidate. The rift within the party spread to the streets. This is an insult to all Malayalis, Mr. Suresh said, adding that the BJP had warned that the change of guard from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) to the UDF would not serve any purpose.

The state was facing a number of challenges. There were concerns about the availability of textbooks in the new academic year. School maintenance was not on track and PM SHRI’s money looked like a lost cause. Infectious diseases caused by rain were increasing. There were fights between the bureaucracy and civil servants. Mr. Suresh said that Congress’s inefficiency has led to this crisis.

Referring to the controversy within the Congress leadership regarding the decision to appoint the Prime Minister, Mr. Suresh claimed that it was a quest to decide who would toe the Jamaat’s line. The agenda of the community was that a person decided by it should become the Prime Minister. As part of this agenda, a Minister from Karnataka had visited Panakkad. This will have serious consequences for Kerala, the BJP leader claimed.

Mr. Suresh said he wanted to remind the Congress that the Jamaat did not come to power on the strength of the votes of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) or the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

LDF was not blameless either. Remarks of Indian National League (INL) national secretary on INL and LDF votes in Manjeswaram and Kasaragod going to Communist Party of India’s IUML (Marxist) [CPI(M)]Mr. Suresh claimed that ‘s desire to defeat the BJP candidates reflects the common agenda of the CPI(M).

Mr. Suresh said that if the change of government in the state does not benefit the people, the BJP will be prepared to launch public protests against it.
