BJP to agitate against GHMC delimitation exercise

Former MLA and party convenor of delimitation monitoring committee NVSS Prabhakar on Wednesday warned that the BJP will launch a ‘people’s agitation’ against the flawed final list of population and jurisdictions of the newly created divisions of the GHMC following the merger of 27 local bodies on the outskirts of the city.

Speaking to the media after meeting GHMC Commissioner RV Kannan, to whom the party submitted a memorandum highlighting various concerns regarding the final list of 300 divisions, the BJP leader accused GHMC officials of lacking clarity even after being warned about ‘structural flaws’; just as a single division falls under two different Assembly constituencies spanning two separate income zones.

He questioned the basic criterion of increasing divisions, such as population, geographical area or number of voters, and claimed that there was no suitable explanation for this. The former MLA claimed that the new map appeared to be politically aligned with the ruling party and “could have been prepared by a private agency based in Gandhi Bhavan (Congress Headquarters) and Dar es Salaam (MIM Headquarters).”

Mr Prabhakar also alleged that the civic body did not take public opinion into account even after receiving “10,000 objections and suggestions”. He claimed that while only changes were made in names in some places, basic issues such as geographical integrity and population balance were not addressed.

Former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, chief secretary N. Gautam Rao and others were present.

Party chief met with Nadda

Meanwhile, State president N. Ramchander Rao met national president JP Nadda in New Delhi on Tuesday night and briefed him about the political situation, the ‘good results’ in the recent civic polls and how the party has emerged as an alternative in Telangana.

Appreciating the efforts of leaders and cadres, Mr. Nadda emphasized the importance of reaching out to the people, identifying public problems and constantly pressuring the government to resolve them. He also stated that infighting within the BRS party had eroded public confidence and due to the failures of the Congress party, people in the state were increasingly looking towards the BJP.
