BJP using women as shield for electoral ambitions: DMK’s Kanimozhi in Lok Sabha

Participating in the ongoing debate in the Lok Sabha on Friday, April 17, 2026, DMK leader Kanimozhi demanded the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act from 2029 with the same 543 seats.

Calling for the removal of the restriction, which is a prerequisite for women’s quotas, he claimed that the BJP was using India’s women as a “human shield” for its electoral ambitions. Speaking on behalf of the DMK to oppose the bills, he said, “These three bills, which appear to support women reservation, constitute the biggest attack on the Indian federal structure.”
