BJP will not let Kumaraswamy become CM again, says Siddaramaiah

Responding to media queries in Mysuru, the CM said that the BJP will not allow Kumaraswamy to become the CM if, unexpectedly, the BJP-JDS wins the assembly polls. He added that it was not possible for the alliance to come to power in Karnataka.
The CM said JDS had won 59 seats in 2004 when he headed the party’s state unit. In the 2023 assembly polls, JDS’s strength has reduced to 17 MLAs, while Congress’ tally now stands at 140 MLAs. Siddaramaiah said that in such a scenario, it is not possible for JDS to consider taking the CM post.
Two-time CM Kumaraswamy, while addressing JDS’s silver jubilee celebrations in Hassan, on Saturday said that people have a desire to see him as CM again in 2028. The union minister, who represents Mandya in the Lok Sabha, said that he personally has no such ambition but is ready to take the risk to fulfill his father H D Deve Gowda’s wishes.
Reacting to the CM’s comments, Kumaraswamy said that Siddaramaiah had predicted in 2018 that he would never become CM again, but after the elections, the Congress leader came to his doorstep and requested him to take over the CM post. The state JDS president said that since the CM has now made a similar prediction, his confidence in becoming the CM has increased and people have already started shouting his name as the next CM in public meetings.
