Two protests, two responses: Delhi stays calm as Haryana turns water cannons on youth Congress demonstrators

Even as Cockroach Janata Party activists staged a protest in the national capital and Youth Congress workers held a demonstration in Haryana’s Kurukshetra on Saturday, June 6, 2026, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over allegations of irregularities in examinations and recruitment tests, it was the contrasting police response at the two venues that attracted attention.

In New Delhi, security personnel adopted a measured approach towards protesters, while in Kurukshetra, police used water cannon to disperse the agitating crowd.

In Kurukshetra, Congress Lok Sabha MP Deepender Hooda led the demonstration, demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister over the leak of NEET documents and allegations of irregularities in the CBSE examination. Police resorted to using water cannon to disperse Congress members and leaders who marched to ‘gherao’ to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s residence.

Announcing that the next demonstration will be held in Panipat on June 12, Mr. Hooda said, “We will fight from the streets to the Parliament until the youth of Haryana and the country get justice.”

He said Haryana currently faces the highest unemployment and drug abuse in the country.

“There have been continuous paper leaks under the BJP government for the last 12 years, but there is no accountability. Paper leak mafias are operating under the auspices of the BJP government across the country. We have gathered today to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan,” he said.
