Blond Bangladeshi buffalo nicknamed ‘Donald Trump’ saved from Eid sacrifice | Bangladesh

A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its distinctive yellow tuft, was spared from its Eid al-Adha sacrifice following a last-minute government intervention, according to a home ministry official.

The nearly 700-kilogram (1,543 lb) animal had been sold for ritual slaughter when authorities stepped in, citing safety concerns, following increased public interest ahead of Thursday’s festival.

Home minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buffalo be donated, the money refunded to the buyer, and the animal moved to the national zoo in Dhaka. “At the last minute, it was decided not to sacrifice the buffalo due to security concerns and unusual levels of public interest,” a ministry official said.

This shopping, which started as a routine holiday shopping, quickly became a matter of curiosity throughout the country as the videos went viral. Crowds gathered at the farm, and visitors came from far away to see his blond fringes and calm demeanor. Ziauddin Mridha, the owner of the farm, said his younger brother gave the buffalo the nickname Trump after noticing its resemblance to the US president.

Mridha said the animal was unusually gentle and required careful care, including frequent feedings and regular bathing.

Albino buffaloes are rare in Bangladesh, where most of the cattle are dark-coloured, drawing attention during the festive season of livestock farming, although it is the nickname that likely saved his life.
