Body found in Wales park identified as missing teenager Lilly Jones

Police officers have confirmed that the body found in a park in South Wales is that of missing teenager Lilly Jones.
A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday charged with the murder of Lilly, also 14.
Gwent Police said formal identification was made after his body was found in the Duffryn Park area of Blaina on June 22.
Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas said: “Our thoughts are with Lilly’s family and friends at this difficult time. Her family continues to be supported by specialist officers.”
“I would like to reiterate that it is vital that people consider how their language, particularly comments made online, may affect our ability to bring people found to have committed crimes to justice.
“The name of the defendant cannot be disclosed for legal reasons and should not be made by anyone else on social media platforms.
“We still have officers in the area and I would like to thank the local community for their continued support as we carry out investigations over the past week.”

On Monday, Cardiff Recorder Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke set a trial date to begin on November 23 and last for four weeks.
The young man, who did not defend himself against the murder charge, was detained until the next hearing.
The boy, from Blaenau Gwent in south-east Wales, was previously described by police as white British.
Lilly was last seen in High Street, Blaina, at around 18.50 on the evening of 20 June.
Parts of Pilgrims Park, adjacent to the A467 in Blaina, were cordoned off after his body was found.
Lilly was a student at Brynmawr Foundation School.
Headteacher Gerard McNamara previously said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of one of our students, Lilly Jones.
“He was a valued member of our school community and was known for his kindness, warmth and cheerful personality.
“His loss will be felt deeply by students, staff and everyone who knew him.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
“The school is providing support to affected students and staff and we are working closely with relevant agencies to ensure anyone who needs it can access help.”
