Both India and Zimbabwe will have equal chance in T20I series: Sikandar Raza
The series starts on Thursday; Zimbabwe senses an opportunity against the Indian team, which is looking to bounce back from a tough white-ball tour of Ireland and England.
India endured a 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland in Belfast before falling behind 0-4 in the five-match T20I series against England under new skipper Shreyas Iyer. The visitors also lost the ODI series 1-2 under Shubman Gill.
Speaking to Star Sports, Raza said, “Both the countries will have equal chances in this series. But I am very sure of this, I can say for sure that this series will be very entertaining as Zimbabwe is playing very consistent and very entertaining cricket.”
Zimbabwe’s memorable 23-run defeat to Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup in Colombo in February sent shockwaves through the tournament and contributed to Australia’s stunning elimination from the group stage.
This year they also won against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
“When it comes to win or lose, both the countries have equal chances to win the series,” said veteran all-rounder Raza, who has played 136 T20Is. He added that Indian cricket is going through a transition phase and that will make the series interesting.
“Yes, India is going through a transition period and to some extent you will see a transition period in Zimbabwe as well. I don’t see this as a one-sided series,” he said.
The second and third T20I will be played at the same venue on July 25 and 26.
