Boy, 11, survives alligator attack with just one arm after dad did 1 thing to save him | US | News

The father of the boy who survived the crocodile attack shared the only thing he did to protect his son. 11-year-old Brodie Dituri was bitten by the cold-blooded creature during a trip to Florida. Peter Dituri has since shared that his son is now afraid to return to the state following the attack.
Brodie was attacked by an alligator while fishing in Marion County last week and has since been visited by a doctor to discuss possible organ transplants and prosthetics that could be used. As a result of the attack, doctors had to amputate Brodie’s right hand and Peter took action to stop the crocodile.
Peter has since shared what he did to stop the crocodile from causing further damage. The father jumped on the alligator and began to open the animal’s jaws, while also telling those around him to call 911. New York Post reported.
Peter said: “There was no thought process at all. It was just instinct. The officers all said that if I hadn’t gotten on top of him and caused him to roll over, he would have pulled him into the water before he rolled over. From the fact that there was no one around to there being people there, I can’t thank them enough.”
Father and son were no strangers to Florida waters and had fished in the area several times in the past few years.
Peter explained: “He has to have his fishing rod with him at all times. Every time he sees water he says, ‘Let’s go fishing.’ That’s definitely not going to happen right now. He’s absolutely terrified of Florida.”
Peter the Crocodile was forced to wrestle his 8ft 7in son after the attack took place on June 27. Peter added that his son was attacked by a crocodile that bit his hand while he was releasing a fish into the water.
Only 500 unprovoked alligator attacks have been recorded in Florida since 1948. FWC Lt. Grant Eller said: News6: “Alligators are found in all freshwater bodies in the state of Florida; just use caution when swimming in freshwater.”
