Boy, 8, among three rushed to hospital after BMW ploughs into picnic table at motorway services

An eight-year-old boy and a man were run over by a BMW driver while having a picnic at a motorway service station.
A black luxury car driven by a 76-year-old woman crashed into a shop before crashing into an outdoor table at Cardiff Gate services on the M4 at 11.45am this morning.
After the accident, the child, the 39-year-old man and the driver had to be hospitalized.
Police said the man had serious, ‘potentially life-changing’ injuries. However, it was learned that the 3 injured were not life-threatening.
A witness told Wales Online: ‘It was very bad. About 15 people were trying to lift the car.’
The woman said that the front window of the shop was broken as a result of the crash, adding: ‘I guess the driver had a medical emergency, because I cannot understand how they entered the building at this speed.
‘All emergency services are there.’
Detectives launched an investigation into the incident and called for eyewitnesses to testify.

Another witness said he had to ‘pull’ his 13-year-old daughter out of the way of the upright car which ‘almost’ knocked her over.
He told Wales Online: ‘About six or seven seconds later it hit pedestrians and the service station.
‘There was a huge crash and the car actually went through the window. I can still hear your screams in my ears.
‘My partner raced down with the other men and lifted the vehicle out the window.’
A South Wales Police spokesman said: ‘We are currently dealing with an incident at Cardiff Gate Services. It was learned that a car crashed into a store in the area.
‘Three people, including an 8-year-old child, a 39-year-old male pedestrian and the driver of the vehicle, a 76-year-old female, were taken to hospital.
‘It was learned that the injured were not life-threatening.
‘The investigation into the incident continues. Anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened is asked to get in touch. Please provide reference 2600162925.’
