Boy Critically Injured While Trying to Fend Off Dogs in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A nine-year-old boy was reportedly seriously injured after he reportedly tried to fend off a pack of dogs that surrounded him while playing outside his home in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.

Sources said the incident took place when the boy, identified as Arish Kumar, was playing in the courtyard of his house in Mahanala village under Patapur police station limits.

According to family members, more than five dogs suddenly surrounded the boy and he tried to fight them off. He suffered numerous injuries in the process, including a serious scalp injury.

Hearing the cries for help, family members and local residents came to the scene, rescued the child and took him to treatment.

Arish was first admitted to Digapahandi hospital. However, considering the severity of his injuries, doctors later referred him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for further treatment. Till the last report came, MKCG Medical College doctors had referred the patient to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for further treatment.

The incident raised concerns among villagers about the increasing danger of stray dogs and the safety of children playing outdoors. Local residents said such incidents created fear among families in the area and called on authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence of similar attacks.
