People Voted Us To Provide Transparent Govt: CM Vijay

Chennai: Stating that the people voted for the current government due to their desperation to implement a transparent, honest and corruption-free rule, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay said that the authorities and police should have zero tolerance for crimes against women and there should be no delay in registering FIR in POCSO cases.
Inaugurating the two-day annual conference of district collectors and police officers in Chennai on Monday, the Chief Minister said that as the safety of women is of utmost importance, there should be no change or compromise in the special arrangements made for the protection of women and the district collectors and superintendents of police must ensure this.
He said that since the safety of students and children is of primary importance, the shops near the school should be closely monitored and even controlled in order to prevent drug sales, and those involved in drug crimes should be immediately brought to task with the heaviest penalties.
Stating that education will only be a celebration when successful students overcome caste differences, therefore, education should be provided by the authorities under their supervision, he asked the authorities to eliminate prejudices in all areas of life, be fair in their dealings and act humanely in dealing with people who approach them with complaints.
He said officials should cooperate with district ministers and MLAs who visit them to inspect government offices, besides overseeing the implementation of the government’s people’s welfare programmes.
He said that transparency should be the basic principle and that sensitive issues such as child marriage should be approached from a social perspective, and that state officials can work freely and fearlessly within the framework of the law.
Outlining the steps that should be taken to prevent illicit arrack distillation in hilly areas, he stressed on the need to conduct awareness camps in all the districts by the health department to fight narcotic use with a view to eliminate drug demand.
The official said that in industrialized parts of the state like Chennai, Coimbatore and Tirupur, migrant workers should be brought under the scanner to ensure they are free from drug abuse.
The Prime Minister asked the authorities to pay attention to preventing innocent people from falling prey to pyramid schemes, to implement regulatory measures in the chemical and fireworks unit, to reduce road accidents in the State, which are listed as “Nobody in the country”, to save migrant workers from exploitation and attacks, and to treat people visiting police stations with dignity.
