Boy has had five surgeries after crocodile attack say parents

Of their son’s injuries, they added: “This will only be determined once the casts and bandages are removed and the rehabilitation journey begins.

“The rehabilitation journey is uncertain, but we know it won’t be a short process.”

They also revealed they had a newborn to care for, adding: “We are extremely grateful for everyone’s generosity.

“We can never thank you enough for the support you have given our family during this terrible time.

“We’ve been living in the hospital for two weeks and our son has had five surgeries.”

They said their son would need at least two more surgeries.

The Cambridgeshire boy had been visiting the zoo with his family and was seriously injured “in the confined area”, Cambridgeshire Police said earlier.

Chris Newman, director of the National Center for Reptile Welfare, previously told the BBC that three members of the Johnson family had entered the enclosure.

On Friday, the zoo’s owners praised the “incredible speed and determination” of those helping him.

On Wednesday, the boy’s family said they “wanted to thank the zoo staff who rescued our son from the enclosure.”

There are more than 100 animals in the zoo, including lions, tigers and meerkats.
