Race-by-race tips and previews for Sunday’s Dubbo meeting

(Choices based on a good piece)
race 1
1. Flaming Guru He returned to winning form with his last win over Wellington in the 2400m and looks well suited to that in the 2200m. His form before the win had been solid since joining Victoria’s new team. He’s got a pound for it, but the apprentice allowance will help with that. 6. Bill Peyto Hit the line well to score points on this track when last produced and should be suitable for increasing distance. We expect him to come forward again. 9. Charlotteing He finished fourth in the same race that Bill Peyto competed in last race, and based on that performance, he shouldn’t be far from the action. 5. Tavi jewel He moves up occasionally and was behind Blazing Guru two starts ago before finishing fourth on his last start, beaten a quarter of a length at Queanbeyan.
How to play: Flaming Guru WON.
race 2
4. Sutton Storm A Pariah gelding from the powerful Rodney Northam stable ridden for the first time by apprentice Anna Weatherlake. He won his only trial at Muswellbrook and looks like he has the talent to get through this. 12. Anders Diamond Another starter who attempted to enter this event third and finished well under a distance at this track. 1. Mushroom has been just behind the standings in both starts to date and should not be underestimated, 3.Harry He was less than a distance from the winner on his second start at Wellington and is being watched closely.
How to play: Sutton Storm WON.
race 3
1.Castro He has been a consistent performer with six placings to his name from nine starts. He has finished third at Mudgee and Narromine in his last two starts and has another chance to succeed here. 2. Inyun He wasn’t far off as he continued his spell with a seventh-place finish for the Orange and he just needs to run into that for it to be hard to hold on to. 5. Routing He fought well in the final seconds of the restart in Wellington and needs to give his cheek again. 10. Litfella He has finished fourth in his last four starts and this ranking would not be a surprise.
How to play: Castro in EVERY DIRECTION.
race 4
14. Duskaura She is a two-year-old filly who competes against older horses, but looks set to achieve very positive results after two trials at Scone and a win at Muswellbrook. He’s performing well here and could start his career in style. 12. Miss Maverick He has been competing well in a number of qualifying and needs to step up again. 11. Marinera Robb debuted for his stable with a second at Mudgee and should be in the firing line. 10. I was there appears after a series of attempts and has claims.
How to play: Duskaura WON.
race 5
1. Chandon Star a fast galloper who won the Wellington race in the Town Plate in good style two starts ago and then ran a solid fourth in good company at Tamworth. The good here should go forward from the door and the apprentice claim helps. 3.Kranich He is fresh off his last four starts and arrives after the third race at Wagga at the end of March. 4. Play My Song It is the last start winner who deserves respect on this track. 6. Wave Breaker He ran well when he took the final starting place at Muswellbrook.
How to play: Chandon Star WON.
race 6
5. Gail Jeanette He has been racing in very good form in his last three starts. He was unsuccessful in his first start for the new stable but has since finished second at Wellington, then won at this track and then won on his last two runs in Wellington. He is ideally drawn in this regard and can continue his work. 1. Obsessive Nature has been racing steadily of late and has won first place at an easier level with three starts, a third here and a fourth at Wellington. This seems appropriate. 3. Andale He has a solid track record in a lightly raced career and is fresh at it after a recent Narromine trial. 8. Sublime Style She is a talented mare starting over and should not be underestimated.
How to play: Gail Jeanette ANY WAY.
race 7
1. Release Point Here he will follow a spell with great weight, but this will be tempered by a four-kilogram allowance from apprentice Anna Weatherlake. Release Point has not raced since October, when he finished 11th at the Randwick Speedway, and in preparation for this he recently finished second in the barrier trial at Muswellbrook. He won two of them and was placed in one of the four initial missions. 2. Miss Taurus He doesn’t win very often, but he is consistently in the rankings. He finished second in two of his last three starts, with both minor races being at Orange. It may be there again. 6. Call Me Terry He was the last start winner at this track on April 10 and his previous form was also solid. It is worth including among the main chances. 14. A Girl Like Me He is well back on the pitch after a break with a good win in Dubbo two weeks ago.
How to play: Release Point WIN.
