Brit found dead in Vietnam hotel room as ‘unnatural death’ probed | World | News

The inquest heard a 25-year-old South Wales man living in Vietnam was found dead in his hotel room in Ho Chi Minh City. A brief hearing on Monday heard that Harleigh Jones, 25, from Pontypridd, had a combination of prescription drugs in her system when she died. Wales Online.
The opening of the inquest at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court on Monday heard Mr Jones was found dead in his hotel room on June 12, 2025, and was subsequently deported back to Wales. An autopsy showed that the drug may have contributed to his death. Dr Jason Shannon performed the post-mortem examination at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and gave the provisional cause of death as the combined effects of gabapentin, pregabalin, olanzapine and benzodiazepines.
At the opening of the inquest it was said that Mr Jones was living in Ho Chi Minh City at the time of his death. He had been working in real estate in Southeast Asia for some time.
Coroner Graeme Hughes said Mr Jones’ death would require a full inquest.
He said: “I have sufficient reason to suspect that his death was unnatural. Based on the autopsy and toxicology reports, it appears that the cause of death was drug-induced.”
Mr Hughes ordered the inquest into Mr Jones’ death to continue and said the case would be adjourned until it was concluded.
Coroner Hughes concluded the opening of the inquest by expressing his condolences to Mr Jones’ family and friends.
At the time of her death, Harleigh is understood to have been working in the communications department of APW, a real estate investment company headquartered in Dubai.
Harleigh had lived in the area since 2023, according to her LinkedIn profile.
After Mr Jones was deported back to South Wales, his funeral took place in Williamstown.
Mourners donated to Welsh charity 2Wish, which works to support families who have lost children.
