British Airways plane sparks ‘unprecedented’ chaos as 9 jets unable to land | UK | News

British Airways flight BA2673 from Palma de Mallorca to London Gatwick was met on the runway by emergency responders after landing shortly after midnight.

The cause of the emergency has not yet been confirmed.

However, the BA incident led to the temporary closure of the runway at Gatwick Airport, causing serious disruption in London’s skies in the early hours of Wednesday morning (15 July).

Because the runway was faulty, a number of flights to Gatwick went into holding patterns while they waited for the landing to be fully cleared.

Delays continued and fuel supplies became critical. Some flights issued the 7700 emergency signal, while others were diverted to alternative airports.
