While passing through Injambakkam on the East Coast Highway (ECR) recently, you may have noticed the barricades on the median. These are temporary barricades placed by the contractor constructing the ₹2,100 crore 13.5 km long four-lane wide Thiruvanmiyur – Uthandi elevated corridor, which is conducting soil tests.

Tests will be carried out at a total of 430 locations, where elevated corridor columns will appear over the next few months. “We will take soil samples and see at what depth we hit different layers of sand, clay, soft rock and hard rock up to 25 meters. These will be sent to our design department, which will design the foundation and other structures based on the soil layers,” said an engineer associated with the project.
