British Palestinian NHS doctor charged with inviting support for Hamas

An NHS doctor has been charged with four counts of soliciting support for Hamas, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.

Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, 31, was captured by Met officers at his home in Pilning, South Gloucestershire, on Thursday morning.

His arrest followed allegations of breaches of police bail conditions arising from previous detentions.

He was then taken to a central London police station where he was formally charged.

The four charges of soliciting support for Hamas, a proscribed group, fall under the Terrorism Act 2000 and relate to comments or material posted online between July 23 and December 31 last year.

Additionally, Dr. Aladwan is charged under the Public Order Act 1986 with publishing or distributing written material and using threatening, abusive or insulting words with the intention of inciting racial hatred or being reckless as to whether racial hatred would be incited.

A British Palestinian doctor has been detained and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, Scotland Yard said.
