Brown University: Shooter opens fire at prestigious college | US | News

At least two people are dead and eight others are seriously injured following a shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, according to campus officials.
The Ivy League campus was placed on lockdown around 4 p.m. and remains under a “shelter in place” advisory.
• Authorities are still searching for the shooter, according to the mayor of Providence.
• Campus alerts warned students of an active shooter and warned them to remain hidden, lock doors and silence phones until further notice.
• Brown is a private Ivy League collegiate university and one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States, with approximately 7,300 undergraduate students and more than 3,000 graduate students. The Saturday when the shooting took place was the second day of the fall semester final exams. The reported shooting occurred near the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Physics.
