Todd Monken was really looking forward to his first snap day as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, when all 32 coaches were scheduled to be at the NFL annual league meeting this week in Phoenix.
But Monken never made it to the group photo and Mary Kay Cabot from Cleveland.com I learned that the haircut was to blame.
Monken arranged for a haircut specifically for the photo on Monday and wrote in her planner that the photo was scheduled for noon Pacific time in Phoenix, believing she had timed the occasion perfectly.

But when Monken ran into Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, he learned the photo had already been taken.
This wasn’t because Monken was late. Instead, the coaches meeting he skipped happened early and they decided to take a photo with all the coaches gathered. Actually, not all coaches.

But Monken wasn’t the only coach missing from the photo. Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was also not in the photo.
While Monken may have missed that picture, he didn’t miss sharing his thoughts on the quarterback depth chart as he enters his first season on the job in Cleveland.
All eyes are on Monken and his staff selecting an eventual starter for the Browns; whether it’s veteran Deshaun Watson, who is on track to return in 2026; Shedeur Sanders; or Dillon Gabriel.

With the Browns’ offseason program set to begin on April 7, Monken was asked if he had QB1 in mind. While he did not specify the order of the depth chart, he did note that the workload will not be split evenly for the participating quarterbacks.
“I don’t expect the representatives to be evenly split,” Monken said Tuesday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
That means Monken has a ranking in mind for his quarterbacks, but he said he’s not ready to say who’s at the top of the list just yet. But Monken said he and his team will start “basically where we’ve seen in the past and where the year ended last year.”

Judging by the three quarterbacks, Sanders is likely to have the upper hand. Watson was still recovering from an Achilles injury, and former head coach Kevin Stefanski had Sanders start the remaining seven games of the season after Gabriel struggled before being injured.
Sanders earned his first win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
But this is all speculation until the Browns’ schedule kicks off next week.
