The pastor of Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona church asked congregants to continue praying for her safe return during Sunday morning service, saying the church was honoring the family’s wishes during what he called a “terrible ordeal.”
Pastor John Tittle of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church said the congregation continues to “pray and stand with Nancy Guthrie and her family,” adding that the church is trying to “honor the family’s privacy and wishes.”
“This has been forwarded to me, pray. So we will continue to pray throughout this terrible ordeal,” Tittle said before leading the congregation in prayer.
During the service, Tittle invited worshipers to pray with him and asked for Guthrie’s safe return.

“Lord, we ask that you soften the hearts of those in charge so that they will step forward and do what is humane and what is right,” Tittle added, before ending the prayer in the name of Jesus.

In a social media video posted with her siblings over the weekend, Savannah Guthrie called out whoever might be holding her mother and said the family was willing to pay for her safe return.

Guthrie’s message was in reference to those sent to Tucson-based television station KOLD. The station declined to release details while federal authorities investigate the communications.
Law enforcement officials said they were investigating numerous leads after various media outlets reported receiving letters claiming ransom. At least one letter included monetary demands and stated deadlines, but authorities did not verify the authenticity of the letters and said all information was being investigated.
