Andrew Neil blasts Trump’s Venezuela plan: ‘Disaster written all over it!’ | World | News

Political commentator Andrew Neil criticized Donald Trump’s plan in Venezuela following the unprecedented capture of Nicolas Maduro. He took to social media to blast the US President, adding that his plan had “disaster written all over it”.

Mr Neil described the “kidnapping” of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, earlier today as “brilliantly executed” by the US military. However, he called on Trump to hand over Venezuela to the opposition party instead of trying to rule the country himself. The US President had previously said at a press conference in Florida that his country would “manage” Venezuela until a “safe, appropriate and reasonable transition” was possible.

Mr. Neil shared on

“Trump says he and his aides will rule Venezuela for the foreseeable future. It’s a mystery how that will happen when the US is not anywhere in Venezuela right now.

“He hasn’t even spoken to legitimate and popular opposition leaders. A bright military landing is turning into a future fraught with danger, with potential disaster on all sides.”

Donald Trump He said the operation to capture Maduro was “an attack that people have not seen since World War II.” He added: “This was one of the most striking, effective and powerful demonstrations of American military power and proficiency in American history.”

He also said: “We will govern the country until we can make a safe, convenient and reasonable transition.

“So we don’t want to get involved with anyone else stepping in. And we have the same situation as the last many years. So we’re going to run the country until we can have a safe, appropriate and reasonable transition.”

Nicolas Maduro is being transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center prison in New York. Authorities have confirmed that he will appear in court on Monday evening on charges of “narcotic terrorism”.

Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer said in a post on X that the UK was “shedding no tears” over the end of the Maduro regime. The Prime Minister added that the UK would “discuss the evolving situation with US counterparts in the coming days”.
