A six-hour manhunt at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California resulted in the arrest of two suspects who breached the facility during a police pursuit and abandoned a vehicle carrying more than 110 kilograms of cocaine and fentanyl, authorities said.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) said the “high-risk” incident began when two suspects, on the run from local law enforcement, broke through the gates of the base.

The suspects then abandoned their vehicle in a military compound and fled on foot, according to NCIS.

The breach led to a temporary shelter-in-place order while authorities worked to secure the facility.
