Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday, December 12, 2025, while listing his government’s work on completion of its two-year term, said the “elimination” of Maoism from the State was the biggest achievement of his tenure.
Mr. Yadav assumed the post of Chief Minister on December 13, 2023, following the BJP’s thumping victory in the Assembly elections, replacing his predecessor Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who held the post for over 16 years.
“I am proud to say that Madhya Pradesh has been made Naxal-free ahead of schedule” [as per the deadline of March 31, 2026, set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah]. Elimination of Naxalism from the state is the biggest achievement of my two-year tenure. Whatever the reasons for the spread of Naxalism in Balaghat, Mandla and Dindori districts, we will strengthen our internal system so that this snake never lifts its hood again,” Mr. Yadav said while addressing a press conference in Bhopal along with his two aides, Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda.
The Chief Minister said that the State has received investment proposals of more than ₹32 lakh crore in the last two years and investment proposals worth ₹8.57 lakh crore have been implemented so far. Mr. Yadav, who has made bringing industry into the State a priority of his government, has organized numerous investor summits in various cities across the country, besides visiting countries like Japan, Germany and the UK to attract businesses.
He said the government has approved 18 new policies to promote a new and seamless ecosystem for businesses in the state.
Mr Yadav also listed the increase in monthly allowance for women under the Ladli Behna Scheme from Rs 1,250 to Rs 1,500 and agreements for projects connecting rivers such as Ken-Betwa and Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal among his government’s achievements.
However, the Congress accused the BJP government of pushing the state into an “economic, social and administrative crisis”, highlighting issues such as fertilizer shortage, deaths of farmers while waiting in queues and increasing debt to the state exchequer.
“The state is currently under a debt burden of ₹4.75 lakh crore. The chief minister must answer how the 22-year-old BJP government has weakened Madhya Pradesh so much economically,” state Congress chief Jitu Patwari said at a press conference.
Mr. Patwari further said, “In 2013, there were 1.59 crore children and a budget of ₹7,000 crore. Today, the number of children has come down to ₹1.04 crore, but the budget has increased to ₹37,000 crore. Despite this, there are no teachers in schools, there is fraud in the midday meal scheme and the future of children is at risk.”
Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly Umang Singhar alleged that farmers are not getting the right price for any crop like maize, wheat and soyabeans.
“Farmers stand in queues for fertiliser, even children stand in queues all day long and police collect lathi fee from them,” Mr. Singhar said.
