According to the FIR, the trio allegedly prevented Pisharody from entering the Manakkalthodi area, a BJP stronghold in Vadakkanthara, on the evening of April 1 and accused him and his party members of being close to people accused of mistreating women.
The case was registered on the complaint of a woman resident of Manakkalthodi.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday condemned the incident and called the BJP “intolerant”.
Pisharody called the action “undemocratic.” NDA candidate and BJP leader Sobha Surendran had said that Pisharody was stopped following his alleged anti-women remarks.
Surendran had also alleged that the UDF candidate’s attitude was supporting criminals, which led to protests from women who stopped him and demanded that he apologize for his remarks.
Elections to the 140-seat Kerala Assembly will be held on April 9.
