CBI grills TMC MLA Atin Ghosh over R.G. Kar Hospital graft case

On Friday, August 29, 2025, CBI officers landed in the northern Calka of Ghosh to question the allegation of financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which the agency was investigated by the agency last year in relation to rape and murder within the institution.

A team of three CBI officers, accompanied by a group of armed central paramilitary troops, reached the Shyambazar residence of Mr. Ghosh at around 14.15 hours to APC Abasan, an apartment on the APC Road. The exam session was still continuing until the reports were received last.

The officers also carried documents related to the case as they walked at the house of Mr. Ghosh, the Deputy Mayor of the Calcutta Municipality Company.

The CBI has previously arrested five defendants, including the former director of the university, Sandip Ghosh, in connection with the case, all of them.

The arrests were made by the order of the hospital’s welfare board after the terrible rape of Junior Doctor and the murder of Junior Doctor on August 9, and later with the complaint of a ‘trade union raj’, which was common in the institution.

Akhtar Ali, a former Deputy Director of the Medical College, claimed that the medical school and biomedical wastes claim that they claimed the smuggling of body and biomedical wastes from the hospital, as well as bribery and large -scale financial irregularities that contain cheering through homod work orders.

On August 29 last year, CBI presented a preliminary accusation by naming five people, including Mr. Ghosh at the RG Snow Hospital at the Alipore Court.

The charges against five were brought to court under many parts of the Corruption Prevention Law in July this year.

Sources confirmed that the Trinamool leader was questioned after his name was revealed during the investigation.

“Atin Ghosh, the local Kashipur-Belgachhia election zone MLA because the RG snow was a former member of the welfare committee. We are examining him as a part of the ongoing investigation,” he said.

A week ago, the CBI carried out search operations at another TMC MLA and Doctor Sudipto Roy’s Northern Calcutta residence for allegedly involved in the case of financial irregularities.

Mr. Roy, a lawmaker from Sreempur, was the chairman of the welfare board of the patient at the RG Snow Hospital at the time of the crime and is also the president of the Western Bengal Medical Council.

The CBI and Ed raided more than one raid in Roy’s house, allegedly participating in the case.
