CBI launches AI-powered notice verification system ‘Abhay’

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched an AI-based assistance robot called ‘Abhay’ for verification of CBI notifications, a system designed to protect citizens from the growing threat of cyber fraud and digital detention fraud.
“Cyber-enabled fraud has emerged as a serious problem facing India’s criminal justice system. The rapid advancement of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and deepfakes have made it increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to distinguish between what is real and what is fake,” the agency said.
The “Digital Arrest” scam uses fake notifications to trap potential victims. “After tricking the victim into following the rules, the fraudsters initiate a fake legal process and keep the victim under surveillance for days in the garb of ‘digital arrest’, a concept that has no legal existence in Indian law,” the CBI said.
“Citizens can access ‘Abhay’ anytime via CBI’s official website www.cbi.gov.in,” he added.
