CBS Morning Show Anchor Reportedly ‘Axed’ as Network Cuts Continue

CBS continues its firing spree by undermining another high-profile on-air personality. CBS Morning Show anchor Elaine QuijanoNew York City’s weekend morning harbinger has been left as part of wide-ranging blackouts.
The network announced on March 20 that it would lay off approximately 6% of its staff, affecting the jobs of 60 to 70 people. Additionally, the network is shutting down CBS Radio, which has been broadcasting for 100 years.

New York Post reported that Elaine, who is Filipino American, is no longer employed by CBS. He covered breaking news and politics extensively for the network.
Elaine became the first Asian-American general election debate moderator when she hosted the 2016 Vice Presidential debate. He also worked on the CBSN digital network.
Other anchors and reporters released include Dallas-based reporter Omar Villafranca; Los Angeles-based reporter Nidia Cavazos; Las Vegas-based reporter Andres Gutierrez, national reporter Dave Malkoff; and Houston-based national reporter Karen Hua.
The Washington D.C. bureau let five staffers go, including Nick Kurtz and political reporter Hunter Woodall.
“We are reducing the size of our workforce today and affected employees will be notified by the end of the day,” said executive editor Bari Weiss and CBS News president Tom Cibrowski. “We recognize that this is a difficult time for those leaving CBS News. Because these are not just the names on the list. They are talented, dedicated colleagues who are critical to our success. We will treat them all with care and respect.”
It is stated that the layoffs are attributed to changes in the news industry and the need to adapt. “New audiences are sprouting up in new places, and we continue to move forward with ambitious plans to grow and invest to be there for them,” Bari and Tom said. “This means parts of our newsroom have to be scaled back to make room for the things we need to build to stay competitive.”
