A German military exercise was thrown into chaos on Wednesday after a soldier was accidentally shot and injured by police officers. The incident took place in Erding, Bavaria, and units of the German military police were involved.
In the statement made by the army, it was stated that the military police carried out one of the largest and most complex exercises in recent years. About 500 soldiers were training in public spaces and preparing for a defensive scenario around Munich. Approximately 300 police officers, firefighters and rescue workers also participated in the exercise known as Marshal Power 2025.
Unfortunately, neither the local population nor the Erding police force appear to have been informed of the exercise.

However, when the police officers arrived at the scene, the military police opened fire on them with blank cartridges, believing that this was part of the exercise.
Fearing they were under attack, police officers returned fire with live ammunition. As a result, one soldier was shot and suffered a scratch to his face, after which he was taken to hospital for further treatment.
While the area was cordoned off, the authorities launched an investigation into the incident.
In order to reassure local residents, the police emphasized that there was and is no danger to the public.
The exercise followed the sighting of a number of unidentified drones, which caused the closure of nearby Munich Airport.
