Chelmsford evacuation LIVE: 100m cordon set up as items needing ‘specialist focus’ found | UK | News

A number of properties in Chelmsford have been evacuated after police found a number of “specialist” items. Essex Police said they had arrested two men as part of an ongoing investigation early on Tuesday.
The statement reads: “Earlier this evening (Tuesday 9 June) we executed a warrant for a property in Meadgate Avenue, Chelmsford. Prior to this warrant, a 34-year-old man from Chelmsford was arrested on suspicion of an offense under Section 4 of the Explosives Act 1883. A 33-year-old woman from Ongar was also arrested. Both remain in custody.”
“As a result of the searches at the Meadgate Boulevard address, issues requiring expertise were identified and some properties in the area were evacuated and a 100-meter cordon was installed as a precaution. This was done to ensure the safety of the community and to provide time and space for experts to work.”
