Child sex offenders to be known in public registry

A new record of sexual abuse criminals promises to give children more protection.

New laws will be introduced to the Queensland Parliament this week and will submit an important election commitment of the Crisaful liberal government.

In 2003, the recording, known as the “Daniel Law”, named after 13 -year -old Daniel Morcombe, who was kidnapped and killed in 2003, will establish a three -layer system for public information.

This means that Queenslanders can access a searched database and apply for images of sex criminals living in their own fields.

Images and details of criminals who do not comply with the reporting obligations and where they are unknown will also be available through a public website.

In addition, parents will be able to apply to the police to find out if someone who has an unsuneduated contact with their children is a reportable criminal.

The government said the plan will be applied by Queensland police with the assurances put forward to prevent abuse of information.

Prime Minister David Crisafulli announced the announcement at the Liberal National Party annual congress in Brisbane on Sunday and said the amendment of the law would be armed with information to decide for the safety of their parents. “

“Monsters cannot be allowed to hide in the dark, the Daniel law will help protect themselves.”

“Everything we do is about lowering the number of victims of crime, and this will help prevent innocent children from hunting to predators.”

More details will be published in the coming days.

The offer for registration is controversial.

Michael Cope, President of the Council of Civil Freedoms of Queensland, said he could harm more than being good because he is usually hidden to protect the victims of the new law.

“The Council acknowledges that the protection of children from sexual assault is a fundamental human right. However, proposals such as the Daniel law are likely to harm innocent people such as victims.” He said.

“Considering that sex criminals are known or related to the victims of the overwhelming majority of sex criminals, the first people who are likely to be damaged by the publication of the names of sex criminals are the victims.”

Mr. Cope said that the laws that focus on foreign danger could create a wrong sense of security with familiar people who can risk children.

He also pointed out the public records of sex criminals such as Megan’s United States Law, which led to significant reductions in repetition.
