China opposes use of force in Middle East, warns it would ‘legitimise unlawful’ action: UN envoy

New York: China’s permanent representative to the United Nations has expressed Beijing’s firm resistance to any measures that would allow member states to engage in military action in the Middle East, Al Jazeera reported.

Addressing the international body, Fu Cong stated that such authorization “would amount to legitimizing the illegal and indiscriminate use of force.”

Beijing’s official opposition at the UN is in line with its broader diplomatic response to Washington’s recent rhetoric. China responded to US President Donald Trump’s latest “bring them back to the stone age” remarks against Iran on Thursday, stressing that escalating tensions will not resolve the conflict, China Daily reported.

According to China Daily, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning elaborated on this position, emphasizing that “military means cannot fundamentally solve any problem, and escalation of the conflict will not serve the interests of any party.”

China’s response was prompted by President Trump’s warning that the US would “hit Iran extremely hard in the next two or three weeks”; It was a statement that intensified global concerns about a broader escalation in West Asia. These remarks suggest that Washington’s military action is “on the cusp” of what the President described as ending Tehran’s “ominous threat” to the world.
During a national address, President Trump reaffirmed this aggressive stance, although he noted that parallel diplomatic efforts were ongoing. The US President said, “We will hit them very hard in the next 2-3 weeks. We will bring them back to the stone age, where they belong. Meanwhile, discussions continue.”Also Read: 8 killed, 95 injured as US-Israeli strikes hit Iran’s B1 Bridge

Despite the intensity of the bombardment, Trump declared that “regime change is not our goal,” although he claimed that the deaths of Iranian officials had effectively changed the country’s leadership structure. “The regime change occurred because of the death of all the original leaders. They are all dead,” he asserted.

The US President claimed that military operations would continue until Washington’s specific goals were achieved. “We will continue until we fully achieve our goals. Thanks to the progress we have made, I can say that we are on track to complete all of America’s goals in a very short time.”
