CI found dead in quarters at Mala, probe under way

Police said 45-year-old R. Rajesh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Mala police station, was found dead in an apparent case of suicide at his official residence on Thursday morning.

Circle Inspector Rajesh, a native of Sooranad in Kollam district, was found hanging in his room when his colleagues went to check on him after he did not report for duty and could not be reached on phone.

Senior police officials, including Thrissur Rural District Police Chief B. Krishnakumar and Irinjalakuda Deputy Superintendent of Police, rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation. Police said a suicide note was seized from Rajesh’s neighborhood in which he stated that no one should be held responsible for his death, which he attributed to personal reasons. However, officials added that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

After investigation, the body was transferred to Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Following the post-mortem, colleagues and senior officers will pay their last respects at Irinjalakuda Rural police station and later at Mala police station.

His body will later be taken to his hometown, Kollam. His funeral is planned to be buried at his home on Friday.

Police sources said Rajesh had been on duty in Mala for the last two months after he was transferred in connection with the election-related administrative reshuffle. He had been on leave for the last few days and was expected to start work on Thursday.
