Cincinnati Reds debut City Connect uniforms and they are an abomination

MLB teams are testing jerseys across the league labeled as the “City Connect” collection. Some are cool, some are bad, and some are… Cincinnati Reds.

Full disclosure: I am a Reds fan. this one painful existencefor sure (Cincinnati hasn’t won a playoff series since 1995, when I was 6 years old). But I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything on the field as disgusting as the jerseys the Reds wore against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night.

ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. GET THE DON’T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!

Before the game, the Reds welcomed the team’s Reds Hall of Fame Class of 2026, including Brandon Phillips, Lou Piniella, Aaron Harang and Reggie Sanders. Then they subjected these franchise legends to the worst jerseys in franchise history. A date that includes this many sleeveless jerseysMeanwhile.

For the sensitive among us, I now recommend you either protect your eyes or go read another story (preferably not that one, retention time is important to me).

Seriously, what are these uniforms? Totally red is disgusting. The logo is too big and ugly. You might not be able to tell, but there are also faint pinstripes on the jersey, pants and helmet. From where? It was as if the designer’s instructions were: “Hey, can you make the ugliest jerseys in Reds history?”

And to be clear, here’s the real plan: an all-red City Connect 2.0 set with faded pinstripes and darker red sleeves. It’s not a one-off mistake.

For the record, here it is. He writes about the uniforms on the Reds’ official website:

“A perennial favorite of Reds fans and players alike, pinstripes have featured on a variety of Reds kits throughout history. City Connect 2.0 brings this classic element back to the new generation, but in a modernized tone-on-tone style. The sleeves are a darker shade of red and the jersey’s pinstripes are a darker tone. [are] “Intentionally cut off the shoulder, it’s a nod to the popular vest-style uniforms last worn two decades ago.”

Why do they remind people of “vest style” uniforms? These were scary too!

With all the controversy surrounding the New York Yankees’ quest to finally add an alternate jersey, I think it’s time for the Reds to move in the opposite direction. Cincinnati is the oldest franchise in MLB history. They should have simple, classic uniforms. I get it, I sound like a mid-30-something stuck in the mind of an 80-year-old. Good morning my baby.

Give me classic Reds uniforms all day in the face of this “modern” abomination.
