Circus performer hit by colleague’s arrow during stunt at New York fair

A circus performer was airlifted to the hospital after his colleague missed his target and shot her in the neck with an arrow while performing in New York, according to authorities.
The incident occurred while Edwin Cuervo Rangel, 38, and Ana Daza Tavera, 42, were performing at the Orange County Fair in the town of Wallkill around 9:30 p.m. Friday, New York State Police said in a press release.
According to News 12, Cuervo Rangel and Daza Tavera are married.
According to police, two artists from Wisconsin were performing when Daza Tavera shot an arrow at a foam target held by Cuervo Rangel.

Police said the arrow hit Cuervo Rangel and injured him.
Cuervo Rangel was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The ringmaster of the traveling show company Circus Murcia later said that the arrow had struck Cuervo Rangel in the neck.
“Unfortunately when he threw the crossbow last night, it hit him in the neck,” Circus Murcia Ringmaster Benjamin Jackson told News 12.

“The good news is that he caught her right at the corner of her neck. There was no blood, no nothing,” he added.
Alexander Murcia, owner of Circus Murcia, said Cuervo Rangel is expected to make a full recovery.
“Our thoughts remain with him throughout his recovery, and we sincerely appreciate the outstanding care provided by first responders, medical staff and everyone who assisted,” Murcia told the Hudson Valley Post.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
The Orange County Fair opened Thursday and is scheduled to be open daily through Aug. 2.
Big Top Circus, featuring Circus Murcia, is a new event at the fair this year, featuring “breathtaking acrobatics, daring aerial displays and world-class circus artistry,” according to the fair’s website.
