Civic Works Give Edge to Congress in Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad: Development works worth several billion rupees proposed in Jubilee Hills constituency, including Yousufguda, Rahmathnagar, Borabanda, Erragadda and Shaikpet districts, appear to give the Congress an advantage over its rivals.
In this constituency, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has already undertaken works worth Rs 108 billion, while the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has completed projects worth Rs 18 billion. In addition to ongoing work, some are also in the tender or planning stages, with estimates reaching billions.
A visit to divisions in the constituency revealed that Congress cadres were actively highlighting these developmental works in their campaigns, claiming that they would improve living standards once completed. They tell voters how strengthening stormwater drains will prevent floods, how repairing and replacing old pipelines will stop sewer overflows, and how new water supply lines will relieve shortages in various areas.
During door-to-door campaigning in Borabanda, Congress workers told residents that the by-election was an opportunity to complete long-pending projects. A shopkeeper in Vengal Rao Nagar division said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s visit to the constituency has increased confidence that civic issues will now be resolved on priority.
Congress candidate Naveen Yadav’s connections across departments also seem to be working in his favour. Although he lives in Yousufguda, residents of Shaikpet, Erragadda and Vengal Rao Nagar said they have known him for years. While an elderly resident of Borabanda recalled knowing Yadav since childhood, a voter in Karmika Nagar said, “He is available, accessible and just a phone call away.”
Meanwhile, BRS has intensified its campaign with party MLAs touring the district and highlighting projects undertaken during their tenure. BJP leaders are also conducting door-to-door campaigns and highlighting the party’s achievements in the state and the centre.
