Clarence Mills: Artist restores his 1988 Expo pole after 38 years | The Canberra Times

His grandfather was Skedans, a hereditary chief of Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands off the coast of British Columbia. The family crest includes the Split Raven and Grizzly Bear on the totem. Mr. Mills’ grandmother is also represented in this work. He explained that a totem pole is like an address or a visual sign of who lives in that area.
