CM Naidu Reviews New Proposals, State Likely to Settle at 28 Districts

Hyderabad: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu led an important review meeting in Amaravati on Saturday to fine-tune Andhra Pradesh’s district restructuring plan. The session focused on reviewing previous proposals and adjusting the boundaries to better meet administrative and public needs.
Initial proposals had taken the total number of districts to 29 with the planned creation of Madanapalle, Polavaram and Markapuram. However, in the latest negotiations, it is aimed to reduce the final number to 28 districts. Significant discussions centered on boundary changes, including the proposal to merge Rajampet with Kadapa district and Rayachoti with Madanapalle. Many objections and suggestions regarding the three proposed new districts were also discussed at the meeting.
Local representatives strongly advocated for several specific mergers reviewed during the meeting:
Ministers Anagani Satya Prasad, Vangalapudi Anitha and Narayana attended the review. A sub-committee is scheduled to meet on Sunday to finalize the recommendations before they are presented to the state cabinet on Monday. The government is expected to issue the final notification on restructuring on December 31, following cabinet approval.
